Community-based patients with ND/ID are receiving quality, comprehensive dental care at the Underwood & Lee Clinic – an outpatient dental teaching clinic. The patient care protocols in place at the clinic have been recognized in the Surgeon General’s Report - Closing the Gap: A National Blueprint to Improve the Health of People with Mental Retardation, published in February of 2002. The Underwood & Lee Clinic is currently serving well over five-hundred patients from thirty-five Kentucky counties. The clinic’s patient base is growing at a steady, average rate of eleven to fourteen new patients per month.
